The Book of the Secrets of Enoch was preserved only in the Slavonic tongue and was thought lost until 1892. Even when rediscovered it was thought that this text was just another version of the Ethiopic Book of Enoch; but the Secrets of Enoch is an entirely new pseudepigraph and not a version of the well-known Book of Enoch. It seems to have been translated from a lost Greek original and was written by a Coptic Jew in Alexandria during the earliest period of the Christian era. It is of no less value than the Ethiopic Enoch. Discoveries regarding the planets &c. which Joel circa 1200 AD ascribed to the god Seth are probably ultimately derived from this book. Likewise some statements on the Sabbath and the duration of the world found in Josephus and the Book of Jubilees should be ascribed to this source. Scholars of Babylonian traditions, apocalyptic Judaism, and mystical Christianity will find material of great interest. Ideas and phrases from this book may even have been incorporated into the Koran.

This book examines all the relevant passages containing the Term 'Son of Man' in both Matthew and the Parables of Enoch. Depictions of the Son of Man in the Gospel of Matthew and in the Parables of Enoch (Par. En.) raise questions about their relationship.The meaning and origin of the term 'Son of Man' are discussed, as well as the possible influence of Par. En. on Matthew.Literary, Redaction, Sociological and Narrative criticisms are employed. Introductory questions of date, provenance and social setting are addressed for both Matthew and Par. En. Dates as early as the early second century bce and as late as the late third century ce have been proposed for Par. En., but a consensus seems to be growing for the late first century bce. Therefore Matthew could have known Par. En.Sociological methodologies reveal that the author and audience of Par. En. may have been members of an ousted ruling elite, opposed to the current administration, and yearning for a just reversal of fortunes. Sets of characteristics of the Son of Man in Par. En. and Matthew are developed, and the term is examined briefly in the other Gospels. Then the two sets of characteristics are carefully compared.Similarities in vocabulary as well as in the pattern of relationships prove to be intriguing, showing that Matthew and Par. En., in contrast to other writings, share a unique conception of the judgment scene focussed on the Son of Man as eschatological judge. This suggests quite strongly the shaping of Matthew's concept in the direction of Par. En.Download

Charles Oxford translation of the Book of Enoch and the Richard Laurence translation of the Book of the Secrets of Enoch, but compile with them such obscure sources as the recently 2005 discovery of the Greek Account of Enoch the Prophet, the Aramaic Dead Sea Scroll fragments of 1 Enoch, Ogdias the Giant, the Manichean Book of the Giants, The Midrash of Semhazai and Aza, the Kebra Nagast 100, the Armenian Vision Of Enoch The Just, the Hebrew Third Book Of Enoch, Coptic Apocryphon of Enoch, and The Slavonic Two Tablets Of Enoch. It is my opinion that providing all of these sources together in one collection would better assist those seeking to understand more completely Enoch, his life, and involvement with the Watchers and Giants. This manuscript better expounds upon the context of the few texts we still have of those he left for us in greater capacity and clearer regard.
